Apple Announces Vision Pro Headset

On June 5th at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled their Vision Pro Headset to the public. People have longingly anticipated Apple's VR/AR headset, and Apple has finally delivered. The device looks like ski goggles and can be controlled with eyes, voice, and touch. It is primarily an augmented reality device but can be switched to virtual with a dial on its side. The Vision Pro will retail for $3499 on its launch in early 2024.

Apple is late to the game in terms of VR technology with brands such as Meta and Microsoft developing their own tech, but still has a commanding presence in the industry. Apple created a headset with the intention of disrupting the split between VR goggles and AR technology by combining the two. Apple markets the Vision Pro as a device that can be used for everyday life as well as for business purposes. The Vision Pro will use VisionOS, a newly designed operating system for the device. It will have Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, giving the ability to use it as a functional computer with the ability to type, click, and interact with most things available online. Apple says that thousands of apps will be compatible with the Vision Pro.

Apple intends to take the VR market by storm with the Vision Pro and has made large waves with just its initial announcement of the product. With an extreme $3499 price tag, the product is not for everyone, but Apple understands the dedication people have to their brand, as well as the value their headsets can give those who purchase them. Only time will tell how successful the Vision Pro will be, but with what has been promised from the announcement there is plenty to look forward to from Apple.
