After Delays, Tesla Builds First Cybertruck

After over two years of delays, Tesla announced yesterday that the first Cybertruck had been built in their Giga Texas plant. This comes as a relief to the 1.7 million people who put down a preorder for the vehicle. With preorders starting 2019, people were skeptical as to whether the Cybertruck would ever be a reality and more than just a flashy floor model.

Tesla founder Elon Musk announced the Cybertruck in November 2019 at a Tesla show, where infamously threw a weighted ball at the truck's "armor glass", breaking it instantly. However, even with this blunder, there was mania over Musk's newest vehicle. With an unprecedentedly low deposit of $100 for a preorder, hundreds of thousands of potential buyers gave their money in hopes to be driving their electric truck by 2021. Even after the first delay with Covid-19, buyers were still adamant about the trucks as the number of depositors crested one million.

The Cybertruck went through multiple delays over the last 4 years, from Covid to problems getting the battery cells for it. The Cybertruck underwent some issues similar to the Delorean had in 1980. With the Cybertruck having a stainless steel body, there was difficulty in the manufacturing process of it. But now it appears that models are being produced in the summer of 2023 with plans for a full launch in 2024.

The Cybertruck's statistics and amenities are what is keeping people hopeful for the EV. The Cybertruck uses its stainless steel body as an "exoskeleton" to help protect passengers. It also comes with its "armor glass" for impact resistance and over 100 cubic feet of storage. It is said to go 0-60 in 2.9 seconds with over 500 miles of range on a full charge. All of these factors add to its appeal, with it being one of the most versatile electric vehicles. We will see soon just how good the Cybertruck is once it is out on the open road.
